West Side House Explosion 7/18/2015
Updated On: Oct 27, 2015

On July 18, 2015 at 12:58 am an explosion was reported and now the house was on fire at 319 12th ave.  Engine Co. 7, Engine Co. 4, Rescue Co. 1, Truck Co. 4 and Car 21 were dispatched.  Engine Co. 7 arrived on scene and the officer reported a fully involved structure and that they were gonna need help on this one.  C-Shift firefighters would be faced with an intense volume of flame, power lines that were arching as a result of the fire destroying them, stored ammunition in the home going off and a broken natural gas meter that was venting gas helping to feed the conflagration.  Car 21 activated the SRN which added Engine Co. 8 and Engine Co. 2 to the call, not too long after this a second alarm was called which brought Truck Co. 2, Engine Co. 10, Car 5, Car 26 and the Fire Inspectors to the scene.  For the next few hours multiple hand lines and master streams would be used to not only put out the fire but protect the two adjoining homes.   By cross shift time at 7:00 am C-shift would hand off control of the scene to A- shift.

The Officer in Charge was Acting Assistant Chief, Capt. E.J. Gallagher
